Since our school year is based on trimesters, I send this AR Goal Parent Letter home three times a year. After assigning weekly home reading logs for over 20 years, I have finally perfected this document! It has all the information I need to give an instant grade. It is the student's responsibility to complete it accurately, or I don't accept it. This school year I announced that I will not accept them after Tuesday of each week. This has eliminated the "reading log paper chase."

This AR Parent Update form accompanies the AR Student Record from the Accelerated Reader program. I use it as a means of communication for parents. It is especially useful for the student who repeatedly begins to read a book, but never finishes, thus does not routinely take AR tests. It is also useful for the student who is reading multiple books at once (at home and at school) but does not routinely take tests. It is an eye opener for the student too!
