About the store

Experience

The 2024-2025 school year marks my 7th year of teaching middle school math. I have extensive experience teaching 7th grade math - including general education, inclusion and accelerated sections. I also teach algebra 1 to a cohort of gifted 8th grade students who are taking the course for high school credit.

Teaching style

Whenever possible, I try to teach math through exploration and discovery to help students build conceptual understanding. I believe that mistakes are necessary for learning and forgetting is necessary. That is why I frequently bring back old material that may seem off-topic to help students practice their retrieval skills. Additionally, my goal is to provide students with as much feedback as possible to help them experience small successes everyday and become more confident in their math skills. I love to help students understand difficult concepts and I live for the "lightbulb moments''! I truly believe that everyone is a math person and can learn math at a high level.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I received a professional leadership award from my school district and was nominated tutor of the month in college.

My own education history

I earned my B.S.Ed. in math education for grades 7-12 from The Ohio State University. I also earned my M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.
