Pinnacle Performance Learning Group (PPLG), LLC. is devoted to school reform and continuous school improvement. PPLG calls itself the Educator Effectiveness Ambassador because it strongly believes in the value of job-embedded professional development held on-site and led by school personnel. Because it isn’t feasible to physically support all systems and schools to the degree that PPLG would like, PPLG is excited to provide the Teachers Pay Teachers community with the tools that help educational agencies, districts, and schools build capacity, competency, and capability to effect positive change and learning outcomes at all levels and for all stakeholders. Our founder is respected for helping struggling schools make significant achievement gains, improve school programs, and enhance leader and teacher effectiveness to improve the total school program. She has over 25 years of teaching and instructional leadership experience supporting urban and rural school districts across the United States. She has served in various capacities at the state and local levels, including DOE Education Program Specialist, DOE Teacher and Leader Evaluation Specialist, district Director of Curriculum and Instruction, district School Improvement Specialist, and district Data Administrator. In addition to being a college writing adjunct professor, she succeeded in numerous roles at the building level: Curriculum Administrator, Instructional Coach, Test Coordinator, Department Chair, Assistant Athletics Director, RTI Coordinator, After-School Program Coordinator, and High School English Literature and Composition teacher (grades 9-12, remedial, honors, AP, and Gifted). Beyond K-12, she has supported public, charter, and private educational agencies as an education consultant for over a decade.

Teaching style

PPLG believes that all students can succeed at learning when schools, leaders, and teachers are equipped with the tools to maximize student and teacher success. Therefore, PPLG aims to provide ready-to-use professional development products that integrate pedagogical literacy and application into immediate practice. In addition, PPLG offers teaching and PD products that promote and support effective scaffolding, gradual release of responsibility, and balanced, disciplinary literacy across the content areas and grade bands that optimize students’ opportunity for success within and across the content areas.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Effective teaching drives the core of PPLG's work. PPLG's founder is passionate about delivering effective instruction to both adult and student learners. She was the 2005 Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year, served on numerous educational boards and initiatives with state legislators, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and former U.S. First Lady/Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Among the honors and awards she has received, Demeka was inducted in the National Library of Congress for Excellence in Education.

My own education history

PPLG's founder has a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and a Master of Science Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. She's held leadership and secondary teaching certifications and National Board Certification in Adolescent Literature and English Language Arts. Lastly, she has effectively developed and implemented programs for all grade bands and content areas that consistently yield positive teaching and learning outcomes.

Additional biographical information

PPLG has planned and facilitated national, state, district, and school-wide professional development and workshops for leaders teachers, parents, and students, and its founder has delivered keynote addresses and presented at education conferences. PPLG works regularly with practicing district and school administrators, instructional leaders, and teachers on all areas of continuous school improvement.
