Translating Phrases into Math Expressions, Equations & Inequalities

This page is a great reference for which words often indicate a mathematical operation or symbol. Personally I print this page back-to-back with grade level formula sheets and laminate to keep in their binder for the whole year. It would also work great as a resource in your google classroom. Now includes Spanish version on following page! Print 2 pages on one sheet for side by side translation for Spanish speakers!

CER Notes template

This notes template is setup in the CER format. Students would start with a research question, make a claim, provide evidence through experimentation or research, and sum it up under reasoning. I use it with FOSS middle school curriculum, having students copy the focus question under research question.

Parallel Perpendicular Lines Design Project

A great project for 8th grade at the end of the year! Emphasize and review the topic of slope-intercept form and graphing after brief introduction of parallel and perpendicular lines. It’s a fun, student favorite that will take them about 3 class periods. It could be done on any graph paper but I typically use 11x17 paper.

Percent Graphing Project with survey

Project to apply several 7th grade (and 6th grade review) standards. Students will create a survey of interest for their classmates to answer. After creating and surveying their classmates, students will create a fraction-- > decimal-- > percent chart and a circle graph or bar graph to display the data. Students tend to enjoy this project because they chose the topics to survey. I encourage higher level students to create the circle graph and reserve the bar graph for students needing

How many Solutions? Activity

An activity that can be used as a summative assessment for categorizing and solving single variable linear equations with no solution, infinite solutions or one solution. All of the resources contain the same problem sets just in different forms ( perfect for Hybrid learning): Printable PDF, Google Form, and Google Slides. The activity is 6 sets of problems (one is done as an example on the slide set) with 3 problems each. Each of the problem sets has one of each type of equation: no solution

Area & Perimeter Project with Rubric and Example

This is NOT a worksheet, as I have been disappointed with purchases in the past that state they are a "project" only to find that they are simply a graded worksheet! This project takes approximately three class periods to complete but depends on student ability. A full list of procedures and rubric out of 60 points (plus bonus points for composite shapes) is included along with actual student work example! Like most of my products only a few supplies are necessary: coloring utensils, rulers,

Transformations Project & Rubric

Transformations project including translation, reflection, rotation and dilation. Requires only graph paper, ruler and some coloring utensils. I like to use 11x17 paper and print-off large grids, adding axes to copy for students. This gives it a project feel as it is larger but with minimal need for supplies. It also folds in half to be the size of regular paper and fit in a student folder as they work. This takes my students about 3, 48 minute class period. Currently I do not have the gra

This product is 10 slides, 3 of the slides are problems for students to work on: Create their own equivalent expressions, sort into correct groups of equivalent expressions and confirm the expressions are equivalent or x the ones that are not equivalent. The last slide directs them to their next assignment on Khan Academy which for my students is 7th grade content Equivalent Expressions with percent problems (be sure to edit if not using this piece).

Easy to use and modify, this simple Jeopardy template can be used for any subject area but I made it specifically for math because I needed the background to agree with black text color for equation editor additions to slides. Math Review Poster Project plus Gallery Walk

This project would take approximately 2-3 regular class periods. Designed to be used for any math topics where groups of students create posters to review the assigned topics. Student groups create posters including hints, steps, examples and unsolved problems for classmates to solve during a gallery walk at the end. Much like a jigsaw activity, this gives all groups the opportunity to review all topics. This rubric/project is very reflective of the other projects I have available that are su

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching since 2006, almost entirely at the middle school level. I teach in a small, diverse public school in PA. I taught Math for 17 years, but currently teach 7th and 8th grade Science.

Teaching style

My style is a mix of traditional teaching and project-based learning. Students are often expected to take notes, participate in whole class discussions, and practice skills. I also have students work on projects in groups and/or pairs in the classroom as well as discovery type activities, task-card activities, and jigsaws.

My own education history

Math Education, BS from Temple University 2003 Educational Administration, MEd from Temple University 2008

Additional biographical information

I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania attending public school myself. I currently live right outside this city I love with my husband and two young kids. I completely empathize with other mothers who have returned to teaching after a brief maternity leave which I have done twice. It can be challenging to balance everything, and in this sharing economy, Teachers Pay Teachers just makes sense! Let's support each other!
