Experience

The resources I create are tested with real students, adjusted based on what works best, and designed to help save time without sacrificing quality. I've been teaching 7th-grade English Language Arts for several years in a public school setting. My classroom is a mix of creative projects, standards-based instruction, and daily reading and writing practice.

Teaching style

My teaching style is rooted in diversified instruction. I know that no two students are the same, so I employ a variety of strategies to cater to diverse learners. I often incorporate the Marzano methodology, especially when it comes to goal-setting, checking for understanding, and helping students track their progress. I strongly believe in modeling — not just how to read or write, but also how to be open-minded, respectful, and reflective. I smile a lot, admit when I’m wrong, and try to create a classroom where students feel seen and heard. I communicate often with parents, not just when something goes wrong, but also to share successes. At the end of the day, my goal is to meet each student as an individual, providing them with patience, structure, and support tailored to their needs.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I’ve been rated as a Highly Effective teacher in Florida each year I’ve taught, which I take as a sign that the work I’m doing is making a real impact. Still, the moments that mean the most aren’t official ratings — they’re the day-to-day wins. A student who finally enjoys reading. A quiet kid who volunteers to present. A class that pulls together to support each other. Those are the moments I hold onto.

My own education history

I earned my B.A. from Arizona State University and completed my teaching degree at Wayne State University in Detroit. Since then, I’ve participated in numerous professional development opportunities, particularly in literacy instruction, student engagement, and differentiated learning. I also hold an ESE endorsement and continue to develop my skills to support all learners better.

Additional biographical information

Outside the classroom, I enjoy card and coin magic, video games, good films, and great TV shows. I spend most of my free time with family and friends, especially my wife and our German Shepherd, Buddy. I’m into coffee, learning and telling dad jokes (even the bad ones), and reading both children’s lit and classic American/world literature — old habits from my English major days. I like to keep things fun, stay curious, and appreciate the little things that make life better.
