About the store
I have taught 3rd grade, which was a one-year only semester-long position immediately after graduating. Since then (2015-2016 school year) I have taught 6th grade math! It is my passion. I love that age group and I love making math relevant for them. More recently, I have earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Coaching, and have been practicing the relevant skills pertinent to an instructional coach: working with teachers, planning PD, and assembling methods, strategies and techniques to assist my school improvement plan. This year I will be teaching 7th grade math! I am super excited to be on the middle school campus again!

Teaching style

I much prefer student-directed activities over teacher-led instruction. Students can learn way more from themselves and their peers than they can from being lectured stiff! I enjoy engaging, hands-on activities and in-class problems that can be translated to reality. Our children are our future...let's begin giving them the reins today. In terms of working with other professionals, I do consider myself an extremely empathetic person, and I do enjoy helping others problem-solve and seeing those aha-moments, or those "wow, this is cool, I could really use this," sentiments are the reason I've decided to undertake instructional coaching in the first place.

Additional biographical information

I am a mother of two busy, smart and sweet boys--8 and 1 1/2, with the oldest currently enrolled in French Immersion. Nothing much to say about the baby other than he will give you a run for your money, no matter how much energy you have! I love watching my big boy learn and speak French. He is finally able to speak fluently with my husband, who is a French immersion teacher at my school as well. We are a tight little family and don't do much without each other. I enjoy cooking, reading, writing, art, and DIY. I am also frequently found pinning on Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/kristih1211/ ; follow me!).
