Arithmetic and Geometric Sequence (Explicit and Recursive) Solution Summary

Created by
Priceless Math
This MS PowerPoint presentation provides an easy-to-understand and classroom-tested technique for understanding the 2 types of Arithmetic Sequence and the 2 types of Geometric Sequences - Explicit and Recursive. Part 1 covers Arithmetic Sequences and Part 2 covers Geometric Sequences. I always provide my students with a hard copy of the slide pack so that they can take notes on it as desired. I have covered this subject in my Math 1, Math 2, Math 3 and Algebra 1 and 2 classes. The solution summ

The Invisible Numbers of Math

This is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on a subject I call “The Incredible Invisibles”. It covers a concept in math that is initially confusing to students. There are a number of “Invisible 1’s” in math that are not shown as they are considered “normal math convention” or “default values”. These invisibles apply primarily to coefficients, exponents and denominators. I have also found in my teaching that there is also an “Invisible 2” that is confusing to students as well. This presenta

This PowerPoint presentation covers the basic steps required to find the percent change between two (2) numbers. This topic is covered in both 7th and 8th grade math and often reviewed in the first few weeks of Algebra 1 or Math 1. It is a fully animated ppt presentation and also functions like a guided notes worksheet as it includes two (2) examples for the students to complete as the teacher goes through the presentation. It highlights the three (3) basic steps I use to find the percent cha

Experience

I am a retired mechanical engineer who, upon retirement, became a middle and high school math and science teacher via the lateral entry process in NC. I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math and science and 9-12 grade math (Math 1, 2 and 3, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and Precalculus) over the last 15 years.

Teaching style

I typically use a 4-prong approach to teaching math and science in my classroom: 1) 8 to 10 minute presentation (usually a ppt) to introduce and provide some basic instruction for a new math topic, 2) a guided notes paper with lots of blanks to be jointly completed by my students and me, 3) online or hard copy practice worksheets to reinforce the current concepts and confirm understanding and 4) multiple, relevant, hands-on projects to connect the various math and science subjects to the real world. I am a strong proponent of Project Based Learning (PBL) using STEM projects and lessons. I use my Smartboard and document camera daily during class. Note: I use all of the MS PPT products that I have listed on TpT website in my own classrooms.
