Lucy Calkins kicks off the Small Moment Personal Narrative lessons by teaching kids to write about the seed (small moment) rather than the whole watermelon (entire topic).
I use this template with my second graders to help them identify a small moment for a personal narrative. They love it and it's easy to use!
2.5" square labels (perfect for the Everyday Counts Calendar) to mark certain dates/events such as "Book Orders Due" or "Field Trip" etc.
Includes winter break, spring break, and blank "No School" labels as well as major holidays.
If there are more cards you're interested in, just let me know!
I print one of these sheets, slip it in a sheet protector and hang it by the classroom door. The kids put a clothespin on their name when they leave to go to the restroom, retrieve the lunch crate etc. I can quickly see who is out of the room and also grab it on my way out for a fire drill. This makes it very easy to see how many kids I should have and who I may be missing. It is also quick and easy to update when students move in or out of my class.
Pick up packages of Avery 77501 Labels (Clear Label Index Maker Clear Pocket Dividers) from your local office supply store along with a 3 ring notebook. Simply print the PDF I've created and you'll have durable stickers to put on your new dividers.
There are enough labels for each of the 26 CCSS catergories listed for 2nd grade math. That's 4 labels for Operations and Alegbraic Thinking (2.OA.1 - 2.OA.4), 10 labels for Number and Operations in Base 10 (2.NBT.1 - 2.NBT.9), 10 labels for Measure
Here's a quick little note I attach to the Scholastic Book Orders.
It includes the due date, payment info, our online ordering info, and a slot to put the most up to date DRA level to assist parents in ordering "just right" books.
This is a great, student friendly template for writing explanatory text. My students love pumping out "how to" book after "how to" book.
-How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
-How to Clean Your Room
-How to Be a Good Friend
-How to Make a Cheese Quesadilla
The possibilities are endless!

Our youngest students sometimes need reminders about their dismissal plan. Simply print this out and keep it on a clipboard or near the classroom door for quick reference. If your school has an after school program, there is also room to note which kids are attending on various days.
Does you school host the Scholastic Book Fair? Here's a sheet for the teachers to fill out with their wishes and leave at the Book Fair entrance in case shoppers choose to donate books to their child's teacher.
Simply cut these out, laminate, and attach to two small bins. Kids can quickly place their dull pencils in one bin and grab freshly sharpened ones from the other.
