About the store

Experience

I am an experienced primary school teacher based in the UK. I have a passion for English. My previous roles in school include English Co-ordinator, Reading Leader and English as an Additional Language Co-ordinator. I am also a published educational author who has written a variety of books to help support the teaching of literacy.

Teaching style

Everyone has their own teaching style and all classes are different. I believe that is important that teachers have the freedom to be autonomous and teach in their own way to suit the needs of their students. Ready-made resources and schemes can be helpful and time-saving, but should include inbuilt flexibility. One size does not fit all! Teachers should be able to adapt resources, add their own stamp and teach in the way they think best. In my view, lessons do not need to be complicated to work well. My resources are easy-prep, straight-forward to use and adaptable. I aim to make my lessons accessible to all. The majority of my resources contain high-quality questioning to make students think and many opportunities for discussion.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have more than 20 years of teaching experience. Shining teacher moments occur for me everytime I see a child gain confidence and understanding and achieve success! I have extended my passion for teaching beyond the classroom. I have established a successful tutoring business in which I work with students on a 1:1 or small group basis. It's wonderful to see how these students blossom with close attention. I have also branched out into educational writing. I have worked with various publishers and have written a variety of books and articles linked to the teaching of English. I have been delighted to receive five star reviews in National Teaching Magazines for two of my books.

My own education history

I have a B'Ed degree specialising in English.

Additional biographical information

I have my own blog in which I share my views on the teaching of English, and my experiences of how to achieve success.
