Bohr Models - Guided Notes and Station Activity

Online simulation, teacher led guided notes, and hands on station activity to understand the structure of the atom and decipher Bohr models of atoms. Students investigate the properties of subatomic particles using a PHET simulation, complete notes over the composition of a Bohr model of the atom, then rotate through seven stations to calculate the protons, neutrons, electrons, and mass of atoms, determine the atom's identity, and classify the image as a neutral atom or ion. Understanding, Creating, and Using Isotope Notation

Two part worksheet and student notes page allows students to link their understanding of atomic structure in a Bohr model to isotope notation. Teacher guide includes annotation steps to allow students to visualize how each number in isotope notation is generated. Scaffolded worksheet allows students to create their own isotope notation from given subatomic particles and then calculate the subatomic particles from provided isotope notations. A link to an online extension activity is provided in t
