This is a project-based learning activity, designed for 6th or 7th grade math students. (Also suitable for 5th or 8th grade students with some teacher modification.) In this project, students use rates, unit rates, and averages to create the fastest paper plane. This is a perfect mini-project to start the year in 7th grade, or a culminating project for a rates unit in 6th grade.
