This is my fifth year teaching fourth grade at a Title-1 school. I teach a diverse population of students with very different academic abilities and behavioral needs. I am a mentor teacher for beginning teachers and a Teacher Leader in my school.
This is a scavenger hunt that the students complete at Open House while the teacher is talking to parents and meeting with other students. We all know at Open House that there are a lot of important documents that parents have to fill out and this scavenger hunt keeps students engaged and gets them acclimated to the new classroom environment.
This document includes templates to organize written sorts, speed sorts, open sorts, and word hunts. These templates can be used in class for students to organize sorts, or you can use these templates for homework for students to reinforce spelling patterns.
This is a guide to help assist students with the "Cinderella Rounding" strategy. I have used this for years to teach my students how to round numbers to the tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions place. This is the best strategy that I have found to explain how to round. This guide is common core aligned with third and fourth grade standards.
This document allows you to complete concept maps for four words at a time. This resource is a great addition to vocabulary instruction. I have found that breaking apart vocabulary using concept maps, has increased student understanding of Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary words.

Activity for students to practice with the base ten system. Activity also includes a place value chart for students to reference to help them visualize how the base ten system works.
This document aids students with their understanding of elements of figurative language. It gives the definition of the elements of figurative language and also gives examples for each element.
Instructions on beginning of the year activity where students bring items in a paper bag to describe themselves. This is a great beginning of the year activity or could be a great way to have students re-introduce themselves in the new year when returning to school.

My own education history
I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In August I will pursue my Master's Degree in Reading Education.
