Since 2010, I have been teaching science in a departmentalized setting to 4th and 5th graders. In 2013, I also started teaching 6th grade Earth Science. Before teaching science, I taught third grade from 1997-2002, fifth grade from 2002-2010, and I also taught sixth grade World History for two years from 2005-2007.

Cell Project by Shannan Marley-Whitehead
Students are given a choice project where they can build a model of a plant or animal cell. Choice #1 is a Plastic Bag Cell, Choice #2 is a Gelatin Cell, and Choice #3 is a Styrofoam Cell. Complete with a page in which students describe and list the function of each organelle. Full page Grading Rubric included. This document can be modified to meet your needs.

Students will:
-Illustrate and label roots, stems, leaves, xylem, phloem, root hairs, root pressure, cohesion, gravity, and transpiration.
-Draw arrows to show how materials move through the xylem and phloem.
-Include a unique title for the drawing.
-Include a brief written summary, in their own words, that explains what the drawing is intended to show.

My own education history
I received my B.A. from CSUN in 1994 in Criminology and Corrections. I have been teaching since 1997. I hold a California Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and a California Clear Cross-cultural Language and Academic Certificate (C.L.A.D.).
