These lessons were designed using the 2nd Grade Writer's Workshop Rubric. Students will reword the rubric into kid-friendly checklists, flash draft/sketch out their story from beginning to middle to end (with checklists in mind), use their sketches to write their own copy and evaluate and revise their writing. The lesson using the mentor text, Apple Pies and Hayrides.
This resource is perfect to use during writing workshop. Students will engage in an interactive read aloud and focus on creating imagery in one lesson. Then in the following lesson, students will examine how word choice changes the entire tone of their story. After that students will engage in a language on figurative language.
