Gifted Characteristics

It is important for gifted students to have the vocabulary to articulate how their giftedness manifests. It helps with self-awareness and personal growth. It also helps teachers of the gifted to understand their students better so they can better support their gifted needs.

Gifted Gripes

These are printables for your classroom walls/bulletin boards describing common "gripes" of gifted students. I like to print them on colorful card stock and laminate them. I have also used these as centers where students rotate and write down which gripes resonate with them and have a mini-group discussion at each table about the specific gripes.

ANCHOR stands for Appreciations, News, Concerns, Highlights, Obscurities, and Reading. This can be done in discussion group orally, can be done written and then discussed in small or whole-class groups, or a one-on-one conference with the teacher/counselor/admin. I added explanations for certain letters because it is powerful to articulate why something was a highlight or an appreciation, and why you are concerned about something. Typically, students refer to previous Week in Reviews, and complete averages based on those categories. They then record those averages on the Week in Review Reflection. It gives students an opportunity to see a "bigger picture" and introduces/reinforces the concept of meta-analysis, or systematically assessing previous results of their own recorded data and to reach conclusions bas

Week in Review

This is a useful tool for students to check in with themselves at the end of each week. It is a great way to generate conversations with students about sleep hygiene and other daily habits. This can be used in tandem with the Week in Review Reflection, a meta-analysis of past Week in Reviews. It's also effective in introducing/reinforcing the power of self-monitoring followed by positive behavioral adjustments. Adjusting your trajectory even just a little bit makes a huge impact, according to Ja

Experience

I began my teaching career in France as an English teaching assistant after graduating from Florida State University with a B.A. in Art History and a focus on French and Museum Education. I became a French teacher in Florida after returning to the States where I continued to teach French for a decade. I taught grades 6-12 from beginning levels of French to the Advanced Placement level. Teaching style

My current curriculum centers around curiosity, creativity, and compassion. I believe in teaching the whole child with an emphasis on the latest neuroscience to inform how information is presented to students as well as using neuroscience to explain and then leverage the incredible phenomenon of neuroplasticity. I encourage students to take care of themselves through a multi-dimensional wellness model as well as understanding their own habits and reflexive behavior to build systems where they can better manage their energy.
