Physical Science Lab Mirror Maze with Laser

Created by
Ray Byle
A 1.5 to 2 day lab activity for grade 7-10 students studying waves, light and lasers. Students will learn about the Law of Reflection, use a protractor and design a maze of mirrors to bounce through a laser beam from a laser pointer. You will need pencil, paper, protractor, some mirrors and a laser pointer. Students will have to learn how to use a protractor to measure and draw angles if they don't already know.

Experience

I have been teaching for 25+ years at a suburban high school that has students from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. I have taught Physical Science ( intro to physics and chemistry), Earth Science, Biology, Physics and Environmental Science.

Teaching style

I like to use combinations of reading, hands-on activities, practice worksheets, projects, lecture/notes, video clips and reports. I use my lab space several times a week and take my classes out of the classroom a lot to use labs, the outdoors around school and field trips off school property.
