Experience

I have earned my Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Specialist endorsement from George Fox University. Additionally I have taught first and second grade as well as serving as a temporary Academic Coach. Currently I own my tutoring business, Read PDX, serving students in person and virtually for intervention style sessions working one-on-one on literacy and elementary subject goals. Beyond that I am working on creating my own materials to supplement many of my favorite curriculums.

Teaching style

I believe that creating a positive classroom community is essential before academics can be taught. If a student feels valued and loved than he/she will believe that they can learn anything and will put in the effort to do so. I subscribe loosely to the SOR group, although I do believe that students who are neurotypical can thrive with instruction without that structure.

My own education history

I graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with my BA in elementary education. I then graduated with my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Specialist endorsement from George Fox University.

Additional biographical information

I enjoy kayaking, reading, hiking, traveling, and creating.
