Character Study 6 Week Unit
Following Lucy Calkin's Reading Workshop model, these lesson plans cover the standards for Grade 5 Character Study Unit over a six week period. They include clear objectives (to meet the standards), daily mini-lessons, sample charts you can adapt to your population, differentiation suggestions, and specific examples from our class read aloud, Jerry Spinelli's Maniac Magee. They're easy to read, easy to implement, and you can also adjust them to your needs! Work smarter, not harder!

Teaching style
For me, the greatest lessons are student centered. I am so excited when I can step away from the lesson and the students run the show! Like all teachers, I love the "ah-ha!" moment. I also like a growth mindset; it's not that you don't get it, it's that you don't get it YET.

My own education history
I attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California where I received my undergraduate degree in education. I went on to earn my Masters in Anthropology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. I continue to take graduate classes (mostly centered around language arts). I have also earned my Principal's Certificate this past spring.
