Experience

Teaching style

I believe that students learn best when instruction is: - Clear and structured, but still creative and adaptable - Rooted in real-life connections that help students see why content matters - Designed for all brains, especially neurodivergent thinkers, emerging readers/writers, and gifted students who need a challenge - Community-building, helping students grow confidence as thinkers, readers, and communicators My resources combine explicit instruction, scaffolded supports, and authentic tasks so students can practice skills they will use well beyond the classroom.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Some of the moments I’m most proud of in my teaching career include: - Helping students who once said they “weren’t readers” become lifelong book lovers - Designing a student journalism + photography program that published digital school newspapers twice a year - Creating RACES writing and novel study curriculum that helped students significantly improve their reading comprehension and written analysis - Developing writing supports that helped many struggling students move closer to grade level - Building strong partnerships with families in homeschool hybrid and traditional school settings

My own education history

I have worked in education since 2012, primarily teaching 5th–8th grade ELA & Social Studies, with additional curriculum experience in grades 2, 5, and 6 across content areas. Over the years, I have taught in traditional schools, homeschool hybrid programs, and virtual/remote learning environments, giving me a unique understanding of varied instructional needs. My specialized teaching strengths include: - Reading and writing intervention - Gifted and advanced writing development - Support for neurodivergent learners, students with IEPs/504 plans - Inclusive and trauma-informed instruction - Project-based and real-world learning experiences

Additional biographical information

When I’m not writing curriculum, you can usually find me behind a camera (I bring photography into many of my lessons!), reading incredible YA and contemporary fiction, or exploring new learning tools and education research. I’m a lifelong learner, a strong believer in accessible education, and someone who will always cheer on students and the educators who support them.
