Poster to display for a room that writes! These are considered 'dead words' and should be used sparingly in writing. Use this poster to motivate students to elevate their writing by using other words to say the things listed on the poster.
These are some helpful tips and tricks for students making decisions about trying to use A.I. for school work. These are also great guidelines for teachers to consider when approaching writing assignments in our current technology climate. This information was taken from an article from weareteachers.com, and I have also credited them directly on the poster.
In chapters 4-7 of To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout and Jem are learning more about Boo Radley and finding the gifts in the tree. The beginning of the book is a little slow for the freshmen sometimes, so this stations activity might spice things up! There are answer keys included for some of the activities that need it. I typically allow the students to use their books to complete this activity.
This Google Doc holds some general writing prompts for students who are completing an Independent Reading project in High School ELA. This would work for any novel, but should be used with some sort of fiction. I have made each writing prompt 10 points, so by the end of the book, they have completed a 100 point journal. You could split up the prompts and make it one a week or simply get rid of half of them. This is flexible to fit any group of students!
This is a great little game to warm up to Shakespearean language. Great for a younger group who is just getting familiar with Shakespeare for the first time. If there are more lines you'd like to add - just make a copy of the slide and add your own!!
These posters feature lyrics by Taylor Swift that were most likely inspired by literary characters or specific events in the literary canon. The posters also feature a literary character that would fit the description of these lyrics and their meaning. This is meant to be a fun addition to your classroom decor for all my Swifties out there!
This article from the New York Times looks at South Africa and how things have changed and not changed since apartheid ended. This is a great activity to pair with Trevor Noah's memoir, Born a Crime. This can be used at any time during or after the novel.
This is a project that can be used with a group of students or with individual students. This activity can be used during the book or as a wrap up project at the end. I used it after part I, but this product can be updated to match any part of the book.
Anyone else tired of repeating what MLA format is every time your student sit down to write an essay or longer paper? I made this poster last year, and I still found myself reminding them that it is hanging up on the wall. But an amazing thing started to happen - a student would begin to ask, "What's MLA again...?" And, another student would cut them off and point to the poster! IT WORKS!
This is a colorful fun poster to add to your classroom featuring lyrics from Lizzo's song 'Special'. The file is sized to be printed on a 11'x17' size paper. Enjoy!
