This is a set of 4 double ten frame (or twenty frame) building mats. Building numbers on ten frames helps students to develop stronger number sense, connect to five and ten as anchor numbers in addition and subtraction, and understand relationships between numbers. I use these double ten frame mats with my students to practice recognizing teen numbers, understanding place value within teen numbers, bridging to twenty, and adding and subtracting numbers within twenty.

I created these cards for my students to work on combinations for those important anchor numbers - 5, 10, and 20. My students seemed fluent with combinations for anchor numbers when they used ten frame cards, but had trouble transferring from ten frames to numerals. With these cards, we can practice adding with both numerals and ten frame cards, to better connect the visual and auditory pieces as we develop fact fluency.
