Experience

I bring over 13 years of experience in education, with a strong background in both general and special education. I’ve taught in inclusive and self-contained settings, supporting students with diverse academic and behavioral needs across both urban and rural school districts. In addition to my classroom work, I served as a Technology Master Teacher in my former district, leading professional development sessions on integrating technology into instruction and planning. This role allowed me to support fellow educators in using digital tools to enhance student learning and engagement.

Teaching style

My teaching style is structured, supportive, and student-focused. I believe in creating a classroom environment that fosters independence, respect, and growth. I use a blend of visual supports, differentiated instruction, and practical strategies to meet each student where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally. I design my materials with the real classroom in mind: efficient, effective, and ready to use.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While my formal awards come from my service in the Army National Guard—including the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal—my most meaningful recognition has come through the growth of my students. One of my proudest teaching moments was watching a student from my self-contained middle school classroom not only succeed in high school but ultimately earn a full-ride scholarship to a private university. Supporting that student’s journey—academically, emotionally, and socially—was a reminder of the powerful, long-term impact that intentional, individualized support can make.

My own education history

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, where I majored in History/Government. I later earned my Master’s degree in Special Education from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. I am licensed to teach both Social Studies and Special Education, PreK–12, which gives me a broad foundation for supporting diverse learners across age groups and content areas.

Additional biographical information

I began my teaching career while simultaneously serving in the Army National Guard as a Fire Support Specialist—a time in my life that taught me the true meaning of resilience, time management, and purpose. During that same period, I pursued my Master’s degree in Special Education, attending school full time while teaching full time and fulfilling my military responsibilities. Beyond my professional and academic background, I’m also a parent of a child with autism. This personal experience gives me a deep, lived understanding of the challenges and triumphs families face, and it profoundly shapes the way I approach teaching. I’m passionate about creating resources that are not only effective but also respectful, inclusive, and meaningful for all learners. Ready Set Support was born from these experiences—with the mission of equipping educators with tools that are classroom-ready, easy to implement, and grounded in both professional and personal insight.
