This is an amazing project that allows students to enter into the imaginary workforce and create a life out of it. They will be creating a monthly budget breakdown by choosing things such as a car, house, even a cell phone plan. Every student will have a different job that they will work around ranging from a general surgeon to a dog trainer. Students will be in a the shoes of a new business owner. They must figure out the prices they will use for their new store by comparing and using percents. They will eventually figure out if their company is worth more than a potential buyout of their company. Uses some Social Studies economical vocabulary as well.
Students will use ratios to determine a population of sharks in the Outer Banks. This requires them to follow directions and find clues from a reading text and use of a picture to eventually come up with a end population.This is a wonderful activity for a dual curriculum project between science and math.
Students will use stocks of their choice to learn how the MAD can be used to calculate variability in the stock market. Students will also need to utilize their calculations in order to recommend a stock choice based on the parts of the project. They will write a letter of their stock choice to Warren Buffett using proper form describing their reasoning.
Students must use either multiplying or dividing in order to provide treatments for 6 patients in order to bring their blood sugar levels back to recommended levels.
Students can practice calculating different payment options in the real world. Provides an example problem for the students to use. Answer sheet provided.
