Experience

I am a Doctor of Curriculum and Instruction with 25 years of experience teaching Spanish at the secondary level. Throughout my career, I have taught a wide range of learners, with a strong focus on native and heritage Spanish speakers at the upper levels. In addition to classroom teaching, I have spent the last several years writing curriculum for my county, piloting instructional programs, and developing assessments that emphasize rigor, equity, and authentic language use. My work is grounded in real classroom practice and refined through years of implementation with diverse student populations.

Teaching style

My teaching philosophy centers on critical thinking, student voice, and meaningful engagement with text. I believe assessments should do more than measure memorization—they should invite students to analyze, interpret, and justify their thinking. In my classroom, students are encouraged to: Engage deeply with literature Use evidence thoughtfully Express ideas clearly through academic writing Develop confidence in their linguistic and cultural identity The resources I create reflect this approach. They are intentionally analysis-based, student-centered, and designed to honor the strengths of heritage speakers while continuing to build academic proficiency.

My own education history

I am a native Spanish speaker, fluent in both Spanish and English languages. I hold a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with advanced training in assessment design, instructional alignment, and curriculum development. My academic background, combined with decades of classroom experience, allows me to create resources that are both pedagogically sound and practical for everyday teaching.
