About the store
Pilot schools have reported a 23% increase in computational (arithmetic) proficiency in just two weeks using Albert's Insomnia and another large metro Atlanta school had 33% more 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders exceed that standard on the state exam playing Albert's Insomnia 3-4 times a week for 15 minutes. The math is always the same, but Albert's Insomnia engages students as a game! They love it; that's why it works.

Great for Automaticity, Fact Fluency, and Order of Operations. Keep your students in the Zone of Proximal Development with a fun low floor and high ceiling game. Works great as a small-group activity, individual seat work, or assign a fun game instead of dreaded homework or drill and kill. Incorporate a timer (~15min) in group or classwork and let the kids challenge each other. You can even grade these as needed and give extra credit for additional correct solutions offered. Experience

Teaching style

The game is extremely versatile. It works well in guided math situations as a small group activity. The game can even be given as homework or a test or extra credit. Students can play "solitaire" or collaboratively where they actually teach each other math as they play. One way to really accelerate learning is to have the class broken up into groups of 4-5 students working collaboratively and competing against the other groups. We also have online and mobile versions with assessment and accountability. Start a contest at your school with our ERP (enterprise resource planning) and raise your math scores while you're fundraising!

Additional biographical information

I invented this game in the game in the 3rd grade. The storybook in the classroom kit tells the story of who Albert is (my uncle) and how I created the game so it engages students via play and relates to them in a way a worksheet can't.
