A Note for Parents and Educators This activity is designed to help rising sixth graders classify marine life based on which ocean they live in. It is recommended that prior to the activity children will have read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: A Graphic Novel or a different form of the classic novel. These slides support both the development of empathy in students and the practice of identifying emotions, especially in reference to how we physically feel emotions. The students are guided through three relevant scenarios that challenges them to consider multiple perspectives and emotions different people might feel in the same situation.
Students of all ages will be able to use this lesson to access the lived experiences of Civil Rights hero Ruby Bridges. Using their bodies students will portray important images from Ruby's fight for school integration. This arts integration lesson will allow students to more deeply explore this legendary trailblazer.
