13 questions all about main idea. The first 6 questions ask the students to read a passage and then select the main idea. There are questions asking students to pick the best title and also some simple true/false and multiple choice about supporting details and the meaning of main idea. Could be used in 3rd or 4th.
Great assessment for students because it requires them to read the text and find the answers within. Mostly multiple choice, but there are two open-ended questions as well. I threw in a Venn diagram just for good measure.

This is the second test I have made for this skill since it is repeated in our long range plans. This one is probably the one of the two with more higher level thinking questions. If you are like me, two tests on this skill are necessary. I hope they are both are of use to you.

This is another main idea test. I previously uploaded one several months ago. This one is similar. Same skill, different passages. This version asks the students to answer fewer questions about the meaning of main idea, and assesses students by providing passages in which they have to find main idea, come up with a different title, and make the connection between supporting details and the most important idea.
An assessment for the reading skill of sequence. Mostly multiple choice, but there are two open-ended questions, and a question that requires students to put story events in order. It is a 6 page test with 4 separate reading passages.
Great assessment for cause and effect. Cold reads, multiple choice, matching, and short answer. Plenty of opportunities for your students to prove their knowledge with this skill.

A test for drawing conclusions or making inferences. I carefully planted clues, but not the actual facts. This test will certainly force students to use their inferring skills.

Perfect quiz to see if your students know their polygons! The quiz has students match pictures of polygons with the correct name. There is also a section to match the polygon prefixes to the correct number (ex: penta = 5).
A quality assessment for teachers looking to see if their students understand text structure. Designed to give students a fair chance to show what they know.

Second installment of a test on the reading skill of compare and contrast. This test has questions that compare and contrast characters in a fiction story, rabbits and hares in a non-fiction expository piece, and an expository piece on the Catawba Native American tribe before and after they began trading with English settlers. Good for 3rd or 4th grade. 4 multiple choice, and one short answer for each of the three passages.
This is a second edition of an author's purpose test. I already created an author's purpose test, but made this second one when we revisited this skill. Both tests are about the same length, with questions of the similar difficulty.
3rd - 4th
English Language Arts, Reading, Reading Strategies
This test has four passages, and a total of 14 questions. Two of the questions are short answer, and the rest are multiple choice. The test is designed to assess the reader's ability to draw conclusions. It is not designed to be any harder or easier than the other drawing conclusions test in my store...just another assessment for this difficult skill.
Multiple choice assessment with questions about likely, unlikely, equally likely, certain, and impossible. Also includes plenty of questions about fractions chances, outcomes, and whether or not it is fair.
This test is designed for 3rd graders, but might also be useful in 4th grade. Mostly multiple choice, but there is a question where students will need to draw a timeline to show the elapsed time answer. Designed with Common Core on the mind.
This is my second version of a test on this skill. This one is probably a little bit harder than the first one. But it assesses the story structure skills of setting, plot, characters, problem, and solution.
We called this test the Half PASS test because we were halfway through the year, preparing for the PASS test in South Carolina. I renamed it the Halfway test for you to use. Yeah, I guess it's a mid-term, but that seems a bit over the top for 3rd graders. I used this test to see where my students stood halfway through the year and it helped me identify my kids who needed to stay after school for some extra work. I didn't include it in the grade book, but that's totally a preference thing. M

Experience
I taught 3rd grade for 17 years. I am now a behavior interventionist at a middle school.
Teaching style
My teaching style is all over the place...just like the learning styles of our children. One thing is for sure, if I'm bored with it, chances are, so are the kids. Above all, I simply work hard to make my lessons thorough, standards-based, and fun.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I was Teacher of the Year at Hunt Meadows Elementary in 2006. I received an Excellence Award from the South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association for a video I made for my school in 2010. In 2013 I was honored as a WYFF News 4 Golden Apple Award winner.
My own education history
I received my B.A. in Elementary Education from Furman University in 2000. In 2001 I received a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis also from Furman. In 2017 I received my Ed.S in School Leadership.
