This is a unit plan which allows students to discover the Metric System. A two day detailed lesson plans are included using the "Backward Design" format. Also included are the metric prefixes and suffixes charts and my own reflection of the unit. I wasn't going to include this reflection, but thought it might be helpful to teachers who purchase this unit.
I had my students create a comic strip based on a story they recently read for their book challenge goal. I couldn't find a rubric for this that I liked, so I made my own. I also created a comic template, but there are better templates out there than what I made. I just wanted whoever downloaded this to have something to go along with the rubric.
The purpose of this template is to guide the students through the classic baking soda/vinegar reaction experiment. This template also includes a lesson plan for the teacher.
Recycle an old calendar with beautiful landscape pictures. Number the pictures, and have the students choose a picture for this assignment. This is a great assignment to practice descriptive writing, and to encourage the students to "paint a picture with words." After the students complete their work, have them read their story out loud, and then have the rest of the class guess which picture they chose for their story.
This power point is a review of four different types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex. Coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions are also reviewed. The standard listed is a 6th grade Indiana State Standard, but can be edited for common core or other state standards.
