Experience

With over 18 years of professional experience as an Instructional Systems Designer, I've spent my career architecting complex learning systems for some of the most innovative organizations in the world, including NASA, JPL, General Motors, and Ford. My passion is taking complex, future-focused topics and transforming them into clear, engaging, and effective learning experiences. The resources you find here are built on a foundation of proven instructional design principles, ensuring that they are not only fun for students but also meticulously engineered to be effective and easy to implement in any classroom.

Teaching style

My design philosophy is built on curiosity, conversation, and creativity. I believe the best learning happens when students are empowered to explore big ideas in a hands-on, accessible way. That's why my resources are intentionally "screen-light" and "unplugged." They are designed to foster deep conceptual understanding through guided discussions, creative projects, and collaborative activities. My goal is to create turnkey curricula that honor the teacher's expertise and provide a framework for students to become thoughtful, curious, and confident problem-solvers.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While I haven't been in a traditional classroom, my 'shining moments' have come from the challenge of designing training for some of the brightest minds in the world—from rocket scientists to automotive engineers. My work in designing critical regulatory training for a major aerospace company was even recognized with a corporate Impact Award for its effectiveness and innovation. The greatest reward is seeing a complex concept "click" for a learner, regardless of their age or background. That "aha!" moment is what drives me to create. I bring a unique dual perspective to my work: the meticulous precision of a systems architect combined with the creative intuition from a lifelong passion for music and art. This blend of the analytical and the creative is at the heart of every resource I design.

My own education history

My formal education is from the University of Michigan, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LS&A) in 1991, with a concentration in Broadcast Communications. It was there that I first learned the art and science of structuring complex information into clear, engaging narratives—a skill that has been the foundation of my career and is at the heart of every resource I design today.

Additional biographical information

When I'm not designing learning experiences, I'm likely exploring my other lifelong passion: music. As a DJ and producer for over 30 years, I've been fortunate enough to share my sound with audiences around the globe. I find that the creative process in music and in instructional design are remarkably similar. Both require a deep understanding of structure, flow, and the human element. My goal is to continue bringing both sides of my experience to "RW Learning Design," creating resources that are as soulful as they are smart. Thanks for stopping by!
