About the store
My teaching career started in Spain as a newly trained English teacher who, on the way to his first class, realized he had absolutely no idea what he was doing and was perhaps in over his head! Over a decade later I am still teaching (albeit a bit more confidently!) and have seen the profession take me from Spain to China to back to the States where I live now in Minnesota. During my teaching journey I have gone from teaching ESL to adults as old as 88 to early childhood to kids as young as 1. Teaching such a wide range of people from all around the world helped me realize the importance of being connected to others, and not just to people who are like us, but, more importantly, those unlike us. I created this curriculum to help children see the similarities between them and people from all around the world and to find joy and wonder in the things that make them different. I believe that a path to a better world starts with our youngest learners beginning life with a foundation of empathy, open-mindedness, and curiosity, and I believe that these lessons can help to achieve that!

Experience

Teaching style

My background is with the Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy. In my lessons you will find many open-ended activities that require kids to be independent and use their own ideas and intuition as they work towards a sometimes vague goal. I also believe that children learn from everything around them, so making sure that students have an opportunity to learn not only from a teacher, but also from each other and their environment is an important theme of my lessons. And, lastly, environmentalism is very important to me and I believe children should be raised with a sound understanding of how to take care of their world. As such, many of the activities featured in my lesson plans use recyclable material as a resource and encourage as little use of plastic as possible.

Additional biographical information

Apart from being a teacher, I am also passionate about traveling, photography, writing, painting, music, and language learning and enjoy bringing all of those parts of myself into the classroom. Many of my lessons include original songs that I have written and most have a language component to them.
