This "Secret Message" activity has students practice decoding words, using/writing sight words and high frequency words in order to expand their vocabulary and word knowledge. Sixteen of the pages that I have created to use with my reading groups and language centers are attached. Feel free to reproduce these or edit them as required for use with your own students. I use Word Clines in my classroom to help students with adding detail to their writing and to work on expanding their vocabulary. Students receive a variety of synonyms for a low quality word like "big" and work on ranking the synonyms based on the quality of their description. This is a great resource for literature stations! Students can then refer to these pages when working on their writing in order to describe objects, people and emotions/feelings in greater detail. This file is a set of 12
