About the store
I have been teaching high school mathematics for eight years, everything from Applied Mathematics to Pre-Calculus. For the past 5 years I have specialized in teaching mathematics to students at-risk for school failure or with special needs. I have presented at local and regional conferences for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM); The International Council for Learning Disabilities Annual Conference; The Annual Conference on Collaborative Teaching; and conducted local professional development sessions.

Linear Equations - calculate the slope of a line
10 questions - Students are asked to name the y-intercept and then calculate the slope of a line given a second, marked point, on its graph. This worksheet could be extended to have students to write the equation for the line in slope intercept form. Answer key included.

A six page foldable (1 for mean, median, mode, range, and box-and-whiskers plots) that has a definition, step-by-step instructions for calculating each measure, and examples. The pages gets stacked one on top of each other, folded in half, and ten stacked. There is additional space on the top of each page after folding for individual students notes or additional examples.

Analysis and effect of change on mean, median, mode, and range
Students are given five real-world sets of data that require analysis of the mean, median, mode, and range. In addition, they are asked to determine the impact of additional data points or changes to data points. This is a good extension for students in lower grades who need more challenging work. These problems were designed for state test preparation. This requires more than simple calculation.

Equations with Variables on Both Sides
This is an independent practice activity that is meant to be done in class following instruction or at the beginning of a class to review the concept. Students are asked to solve 6 equations with variables on both sides and then rearrange them in order them in a pyramid shape based on their solutions. This allows the teacher to quickly asses the solutions and brings a change of base to practicing a skill.

TI-84 Plus Silver Step-by-Step Instructions
Basic instructions for the TI84-Plus that include: descriptions of menu keys; how to create lists and then use the list to find measures of central tendency; how to graph lines; how to change the viewing window. Instructions include screen captures at each step so students can make sure they are doing the right thing.

Factors for the number 1-100
This a list of the multiplication facts for the numbers 1 to 100 (all the factors for each number). The prime numbers are in boxes so they are easily identified. I typically copy this back-to-back on a single sheet of paper and provide to those students who have difficulty with their multiplication facts. It allows struggling students to learn how to factor polynomials without getting hung up by the multiplication. The preview shos you a portion of the document.

This a set of 4 worksheets that checks understanding of vocabulary and key concepts related to fractions (includes answer keys). Each worksheet is progressively more difficult for students, but checks the same concepts. These were used for high school students in an elective math class designed to fill-in gaps in learning and understanding.

Evaluating Expressions Notebook Activity
This a notebook activity designed for independent practice following instruction or as a new way to review a previously taught skill. Students outline each square in the color indicated. They evaluate the 4 expressions, cut them out, and then glue them in their notes from least to greatest. The teacher can quickly pick out errors.

About the store
Experience
I have been teaching high school mathematics for eight years, everything from Applied Mathematics to Pre-Calculus. For the past 5 years I have specialized in teaching mathematics to students at-risk for school failure or with special needs. I have presented at local and regional conferences for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM); The International Council for Learning Disabilities Annual Conference; The Annual Conference on Collaborative Teaching; and conducted local professional development sessions.
Teaching style
I work primarily with at-risk learners. Many of them have learning disabilities or for a variety of reasons do not have sound foundational math skills. I break concepts into smaller skills and steps and make use of color, manipulatives, and physical movement.
In short, I try to make math FUN for students who have developed a hatred for it.

Additional biographical information
My research interests focus on making higher mathematics accessible to at-risk students by stressing foundational competencies, developing learning and behavioral strategies, and by using engaging activities and solid instructional strategies. "It's in the Cards", an article detailing a classwide management tool designed to increase academic behaviors in at-risk students is in press with Intervention in School and Clinic.
