Students will explore the Conflict Theory Perspective by engaging in an interactive role-playing simulation that reflects power dynamics, social inequality, and systemic structures. Through this engaging activity, students will gain a deep understanding of how Conflict Theory examines society, its benefits, and its limitations.

Using this sheet, students can view the motion picture "Mean Girls" and look for evidence of the sociological terms and perspectives discussed throughout the unit. A culminating activity is to use their notes and write a Sociological Perspectives paper where students demonstrate their ability to recognize the terms and concepts discussed in class in popular culture and media.

Notes to Instructors:  This assignment is a good way to introduce the three sociological perspectives to your students.  This should be assigned as independent work to allow for students to demonstrate their understanding and ability to apply the concepts through their Critical Thinking Question responses.Students can discuss their responses after independently working on the assignment.  Lesson Topic: Introducing the Theoretical PerspectivesAssignment Duration:  25 minutes

Students will participate in an interactive group activity where they create a visual representation of society as a puzzle. Each piece of the puzzle represents a social institution (family, education, government, media, economy, religion, etc.). They will work together to illustrate how these institutions function interdependently to maintain social order. The activity concludes with a brief written reflection answering critical thinking questions.

This assignment is a great end of unit project to complement the Race & Ethnicity unit. Students can think critically about race and ethnicity in a meaningful manner using these activities.
