In this activity, students will use a map of the United States to set up proportions and solve problems dealing with scale factor. You will need to provide your own map. I just copied one from an atlas I had in my room. This is a fun and exciting way for students to see where scale factors and proportions can be used in the real world.

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching in public schools since 2005. The students that I teach range from special education to gifted and talented. I have also worked for a Community College teaching developmental math to adults. While the majority of my time has been spent teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra in middle school, I have also worked with students in general seventh and eighth grade math.

Teaching style

My style is primarily inquiry-based, with a focus on creating a student-centered environment. I utilize a variety of teaching styles throughout the school year, based on the content and needs of the students. Collaboration is a consistent strategy in my classes, as students work in groups to complete a number of tasks and projects.

My own education history

B.S. and M.Ed in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Math, Reading, and Social Studies from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
