Schmidt Special Ed

Students are to be provided a bag of skittles. They are going to use proportions and ratios to determine if there are the same number/ratio of each color in all different sized bags. I had students work in groups of 2 for this activity. Within the activity I broke it up into three different sections; a pre-lab, lab, and post-lab portion. Students make initial guesses/hypothesis, test out their theory, use proportions and ratios to analyze their results and graph data.

HANDWRITTEN Two Step Equation guided step by step problems with an abundance of practice problems and formative assessments for each type of two step equation. Also a worksheet on finding the error and explaining the error in a two step equation problem.

Worksheet with word problems that involve percentages, such as finding tax, tip, discounts, etc and using math to reason which option might be better or to solve the problem and explain how the student solved it. Could be used as a whole group, small group, individual activity or as homework. I used it as a partial whole group and individual activity. There are some similar set ups for problems, so we did one as a class than one individually working throughout the packet.

MATH BELL RINGER/DO NOW POWERPOINT Offers 41 days of Math Reasoning bell ringers using engaging and student centered would you rather questions. Students use math to figure out which option would be the better option. I had my students write a mini paragraph explaining how they solved the question and why their option they chose was better.
