Students get to design their own floor plan for their dream home using scaling calculations. Includes a rubric for grading that you can write in your own grading scale. Also, you may choose to give your students very large paper for their rough and final drafts which works well, too. Students love adding in anything that they wish they could have in their dream home (swimming pool motes, football fields, game rooms, basketball rooms, etc.) *I have now made this editable with a Word Doc and PDFI

This editable (PDF and Word Doc) paper airplane activity has been a hit in my middle school math classes. Students create paper airplanes to chart data for distances thrown each time, modify the plane, and then graph their findings on a double bar graph for the final results. I found that it worked best to take my class outside to do this activity. I also put them in pairs.
