Population Dynamics Online Activity: Exponential and Logistic

Created by

This is a worksheet that goes along with the hhmi interactive 'population dynamics.' I wanted to make a shorter and simpler worksheet for students to explore exponential and logistic growth models. There are clear directions that guide students to identifying key concepts regarding these models. I like having students be able to play with the graph parameters without having to do lots of graphing by hand. I use this as part of a population ecology unit, but it could be used in a math class cover

Experience

My interest in science is rooted in a love of the natural world. In college I studied biology, later getting a master's degree in education. have thirteen years teaching a variety of levels and subjects of science. I also had a small farm for seven years, and I try to relate lessons to real-life and hand on examples whenever possible.

Teaching style

I'm not a fan of conforming to any particular pedagogy. The most important ideas that I organize my teaching around is making sure students are actively doing something most of the class, try to make activities fun, give students as much voice and choice as they feel comfortable with, and do plenty of reading and writing. And most importantly, show kindness and understanding and build good relationships.
