In college I studied biology, later getting a master's degree in education. have thirteen years teaching a variety of levels and subjects of science. Design an Instant Cold Pack Lab
This is an inquiry lab where students design and create an instant cold pack. They apply knowledge of endothermic reactions and bond energy and do multiple iterations to make a good model. Because I do not have them use any very dangerous chemicals, the cold packs tend not to have a very large change in temperature. Experience
My interest in science is rooted in a love of the natural world. I also had a small farm for seven years, and I try to relate lessons to real-life and hand on examples whenever possible.
Teaching style
I'm not a fan of conforming to any particular pedagogy. The most important ideas that I organize my teaching around is making sure students are actively doing something most of the class, try to make activities fun, give students as much voice and choice as they feel comfortable with, and do plenty of reading and writing. And most importantly, show kindness and understanding and build good relationships.
