Facts in Fives is a brainstorming game which uses specific categories with certain letters of the alphabet. Teams or individuals try to fill in as many boxes as possible with category members that begin with the game’s letters. Included are ready-to-play boards and a blank board for multiple uses. These forms are helpful for Morning Work on Mondays. They allow the students to share about their weekends and have a prompt for discussions. It gives the teacher a writing sample or an insight into the students’ thinking.
I have used this Notebook page to help keep my students organized during our Literacy program. The students are grouped by color in heterogeneous groups. Then we discuss the different tasks for each station. Guided reading groups are pulled during the different rotations, so students may miss one station per day. The students remain focused and on task after you have trained them well.
