Teaching the Elements of a Plot
This is a lesson to teach the students the elements of a plot. It will take 1-2 periods depending on your students. In my experience, for 8th graders, this lesson takes 2 periods

One key to student success is their knowledge of academic language. Teach your students ten of the most used words in the new Common Core Standards. Teaching style
I have to admit--I'm a little bit crazy! It's 8th grade, and Rule Number 1 is "Keep Them Awake"! We play lots of games, sing crazy songs they love to hate, and work our tails off! I'm also very much about Project Based Learning where kids are self-directed and fully engaged with their projects. If I'm working harder than they are, something's wrong!
