I like to play the field when it comes to what I teach because as an individual I strive to be well rounded and pursue a wide variety of interests. For example, I’m a baker and sell my filled cakes and cheesecakes at a variety of community events. I also enjoy fiber arts, and every year I help my students design and create custom family cross stitch portraits.
As someone who struggled to learn to read as a child, as an adult I have a deep love for both literature and writing. I have spent 7 years coaching 5th/6th, junior high, and high school teams participating in the Alaska Battle of the Books, and two years serving on my school’s literacy leadership team, which is dedicated to incorporating literacy across all content areas as well as improving literacy instruction across the board in my school district. I’m a CORE certified trainer of trainers and am currently seeking my Keys to Literacy certification. I specialize in aiding students in filling gaps in comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills.
I have a passion for Ancient History and Alaska Studies and have spent 7 years creating educator materials to make both topics accessible students with a wide range of ability levels. I am c that is assisting in re-writing the social studies standards for the state of Alaska.
Thank you for checking out my educator profile, and I hope one of my resources will be of interest.
