Get to know your students with this introduction assignment. I used this assignment at the beginning of the year to assess my student's writing level, as well as their view of themselves as a math student. It was interesting to see students describe themselves, and I was able to learn about my students' personalities early on in the year. Students are asked to tell you about themselves as a student, as a math student, and what they think about math as a subject. Use this to learn more about y

This printable is a graphic organizer for students to organize the steps for both the substitution and elimination methods for solving systems of equations. Students can glue this graphic organizer into their notes.
Students love to figure out answers when put under pressure in front of the class in this engaging classroom activity! Set up using the "I have... Who has?" game style, simply cut out on the lines horizontally to make slips for students, you can print out an extra sheet for yourself as a teacher guide. The student with the first card starts and reads "I have... Who has?" after which another student has to chime in if they have the answer to that question. I time the class and we repeat it a numb

I always gave a diagnostic at the beginning of the school year to help place students on the spectrum of math knowledge to help me group students or target intervention for students. I used this in my 7th grade classroom, but it could be used in middle school or even in an algebra class. This document can also be used as a homework, practice exam, final exam, extra credit practice, or however else you could imagine!
This graphic organizer allows students to describe all the sign rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers.
Help students with their 9s multiplication table with this worksheet. It includes general practice at the top and a number search below where students can find equations like "9*2=18" to help them associate the correct numbers together. Fun way to help students work on their memorization!
Bingo is a simple concept that students love. In this review math activity, students are given a list of numbers to input into their bingo boards. The first page is for students to use, and the rest is a list of questions for the teacher to ask students. I used to randomize the order of the questions but that is up to teacher discretion. This activity includes questions about: -word problems with 1 step operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) -square roots -
This handout gives students a word problem that they should solve using 3 methods of solving systems of equations: graphing, substitution, and elimination. They create their own system based on the problem given. The assignment is self correcting as students should get the same answer no matter which method they use to solve the system.
In this simple activity, students learn to see the pattern of how positive and negative exponents are related. I used this in my classroom as a warm up. Students pick any number of their choosing and take them to various powers. They then try to recognize the pattern that is created. Save paper by using my 1/2 sheet copies!
This 1 page quiz tests students knowledge on: -adding fractions -subtracting fractions -finding a percent of a total -finding a total given a percent and a part -finding the percent given the part and the total Also on the back page is a critical thinking logic puzzle for students to try if they finish early during the alloted time.
Word problems are the bane of students' math existences. This method is one I used in my middle school math classroom, but can be used in any grade level. It forced students to break down what I like to call story problems in the following ways: -Underline what the problem is asking you. -Circle the numbers; put a box around the math words. -Draw a picture to visualize what the problem is asking. -Come up with a plan to solve your problem. -Solve the problem! -Check your answer and writ
