This claim sheet requires students to use the 8 Mathematical Practices as they understand, solve, model and explain and argue that their thinking is correct. I has been using this sheet for over twelve years and I average 40 % growth on SBAC state testing.
A set of Making Thinking Visible routine graphic organizers for students to show their thinking and connections. These can be used as a unit or individually depending on the teacher's or students' purpose. Most of them are set up as thinking maps with a text box for writing questions, commends or feedback during sharing/discourse time.
Make the 8 Mathematical Practices easier to remember. When students say that they finished I remind them to make sure they completed their DOTS. Does each answer need a drawing? Did you organize your work and show structure? Did you talk about your thinking through written words? Does your thinking and answer make sense? Now I say, "Check for DOTS" and often give DOT candy for each standard achieved.
These posters are for hanging in your class to remind students of the college and career goals. I point each standard out as students work on them. It has helped some students focus having a label on what and why they are doing what class demands of them.
