About the store
I am a retired educator who taught for 36 years in the same district where I began my career. In the past I taught 8th grade social studies to regular and pre-AP students. I have also taught inclusion social studies. I served as the chair for the social studies department and was a member of my school's leadership team. For the last 6 years of my career, I taught/facilitated a program called EAST (Education Accelerated by Science and Technology). The course is a state-approved initiative to encourage student self-directed learning through projects they create and design to solve problems or address needs they see in the communities around them using sophisticated, professional grade technology made available to them through the program.

Sequences progress in difficulty and even contain some mathematical computations. Before assigning this activity, use the practice sequences (located on the 3rd page) by reading them aloud as the students move around the grid. Hint: Use the pencil eraser and tap each square (like moving around on a game board). The soun

Use this power point to introduce conflict to students. (I use it prior to embarking upon the study of any war in social studies; however, it would be good to use for life skills as well - conflict/resolution.) The power point is designed to prompt student discussion and writing about conflict. The included detailed notes can be provided to the students as a followup to the power point.

Teaching style

I was not a traditional "book" teacher; but rather preferred coming up with my own resources to facilitate teaching the state frameworks. I sought to engage students by presentation of differentiated materials/activities that incorporate the use of media, technology, and project-based activities whenever possible. Making the material as high-interest as possible was my goal!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I earned my National Board Certification in 2009 and successfully renewed my certification in 2018. I was nominated for my school district's Teacher of the Year 2 different times. I served as a state mentor for novice teachers over the past 16 years. I was a state finalist for Arkansas Mentor of the Year.

My own education history

I attended Arkansas Tech University where I received my degree and certification in Elementary Education K-6 with Middle School Social Studies. I earned my National Board Certification in 2009. I completed 3 Phase trainings to become an EAST Facilitator. I have been trained in every professional development known to teaching over the past 32 years!
