I bring over a decade of rich and diverse teaching experience to the classroom. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and ability levels. This wealth of experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of the unique needs and perspectives that each student brings to their educational journey. Currently, I serve as an educator in Guangzhou, China, where I teach Advanced Placement (AP) World History. This role has allowed me to delve into the complexities of global history with high school students who are eager to explore the past, understand different cultures, and excel academically. Teaching AP World History in an international setting has further broadened my perspective, as it demands an interdisciplinary approach and encourages students to think critically about our interconnected world.

Enduring Issues Timeline Project

This year to provide more structure to my history class I decided I wanted to bring in the use of Enduring Issues to help students identify common themes and patterns throughout the year. This timeline activity is meant to have students begin to think historically, flex their research muscles, and review the enduring issues that we have already identified. While I used this early in the semester, because I wanted them to become familiar with both the enduring issues and PowerPoint, this could e

Be sure to read through them carefully to ensure that you are comfortable sharing the information with your students and ensure that it i

Podcast Response Worksheet

Using podcasts to teach is becoming more and more popular. In order to check on student's listening comprehension skills as they listened to the podcasts I created this resource. I like to use this as an extra credit opportunity as it allows you to encourage students to here new information from people who are not you while still getting some pats on the back for doing so.

Podcast Analysis: Toussaint L'Ouverture and the Haitian Revolution

This podcast analysis sheet was created to be used with the Missed in History Class episode titled Toussaint L'Ouverture and the Haitian Revolution. This can be used as a great overview activity or possibly as a part of a choice menu. Most recently, I used it in my classroom as a Deep Dive (extra credit) option for students while we were learning about the Age of Revolutions. Teaching style

I prefer a student-centered and inquiry-based teaching style that places students at the helm of their own education. My current challenge is incorporating these things into my AP World History classroom.

My own education history

At Kansas State University, I earned a Bachelor's degree in History, delving into the fascinating narratives that have shaped our world. Simultaneously, I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages, with a focus on Spanish. This allowed me to not only appreciate the richness of different cultures but also to develop language proficiency, facilitating communication and cross-cultural understanding. In addition to my dual Bachelor's degrees, I pursued a secondary major in International Studies, further deepening my understanding of global issues, diplomacy, and the interconnectedness of our world. Building on this strong foundation, I continued my academic journey at Fort Hays State University, where I earned a Master's in Education. This advanced degree equipped me with the pedagogical knowledge and teaching strategies necessary to inspire and engage students effectively.
