Back to School Speech and Language Ice Breaker Activity

It is so helpful to get to know what our students like and don't like! This is a fun icebreaker activity, where your students will get to know each other and you! In this activity students will write down 5 things about themselves; 3 things that they like and two things that they don’t like. They will then go around the circle and guess about each other’s answers. This incorporates social thinking, inferencing and per

Conversational Speech and Language Questions: A Year Round Collection

A great way to engage students in discussion! Sometimes, it can be tricky to figure out how to begin a session with our students. Should we start with a game? Should we jump right into the hard stuff before we lose the student’s attention? I like to start with an icebreaker question. This helps make the student comfortable, gets them talking, and gives me a baseline for their speech and language skills for that day. I have included 42 total question prompts, about 4 question prompts for each mon

Teaching style

I have a passion for creating therapy materials that give students opportunities to interact with each other and that also relate to events happening in the outside world (seasons, holidays, etc.). I love to bring components of my therapy session outside of the therapy room and see students initiating conversation with other students/staff. Activities that elicit natural language opportunities such as making and delivering crafts, making recipes or participating in science experiments are my favorite! I also love to create materials with a clean and simple aesthetic incorporating real world pictures as much as possible. I want my materials to be appropriate for individuals from age 5 to 90!

My own education history

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and a Masters Degree in Communication Disorders.
