Convert Capacity units at home. Take home project to find 10 items in your refrigerator or pantry. Look at how it is labeled, i.e. 1 gallon milk. Convert it to another unit, i.e. 4 quarts. Conversion chart is included.
Use this activity for parent open house or as a class project in Math. Have students answer the questions. Cover each answer with a post-it note that has a math problem on it. Have parent or partner figure out the answers and check under the post-it note to see if they are correct. A great way to get to know each other using math skills. You can set the directions for the class level math skills (addition/subtraction only, addition/subtraction/multiplication of single digits, etc.)
Teaching how to write the standard form and the word form of a number by writing out checks to various places and using set amounts as well as the student being able to create their own amount. Can be used as a whole class lesson or as a station.
