This is my 16th year teaching. I have a taught a variety of grades, but most recently 6th grade math and science. We utilize the Open Up Resources (illustriave math) curriculum. I create resources that align and supplement this curriculum.

Introduction to Percentages: Picture on a 100 Grid and Grade Calculations
Students first color a 100 grid in 5 colors and record the number of blocks shaded in each color as a fraction, decimal and percent. They then learn how to calcualte grade percentages on assignments. This is an activity for introducing the concept of percentages.

Experience
This is my 16th year teaching. I have a taught a variety of grades, but most recently 6th grade math and science. We utilize the Open Up Resources (illustriave math) curriculum. I create resources that align and supplement this curriculum.
Teaching style
I believe students should explore math with open-ended higher level thinking tasks, but that they alos need an opportunity for extra practice to become secure on a skill. Students succeed when this extra practice is high interest, varied and is beneficial to their understanding of the content.
My own education history
I have a bachelors in education from The College of New Jersey and a masters in education from Wilkes University. My certifications are in elementar education and Middle Level Mathematics.
Additional biographical information
Outside of work, I am a mother to three and a private math tutor. My passion is for helping students make sense of mathematics. This helps their ability to think critically and solve all problems and gives them confidence as well.
