Teaching style

The Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of a learning environment that will enhance and facilitate children's construction of his or her own powers of thinking through the combination of all the expressive, communicative and cognitive languages. The role of the environment in the Reggio Emilia approach is often referred to as the “third teacher.” Classrooms are filled with children’s work, found objects, natural elements, and classroom materials. The goal is that the environment informs and engages the learner.

My own education history

Graduated with a degree in Education in 2007. Completed my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2014.

Additional biographical information

I have discovered that through Reggio Emilia, children are actively engaged in their learning and develop a strong sense of community within the classroom. I like to focus on engaging families within the classroom as well. I want to build upon family knowledge and experience and intertwine this into our curriculum through creating a partnership with each other. This classroom is not mine, but families and the child’s learning environment. It takes a village to teach Grade Two; families as well as the community serve as a positive resource for the class to gather valuable learnings and teachings from. As a teacher I understand that in order to create a “village” that is sustainable, families are key. It is not just the student who joins a school community, it’s the whole family.
