Simulation Activity: Introduction to Wave Model (IB DP Topic C2)

A digital simulation-based activity designed to introduce students to key wave vocabulary, think about how these quantities can be measured, and how they are related to each other. Includes step-by-step instructions, definitions of key terms, and scaffolding to support deeper conceptual development and skills for th IA (collecting and organizing data, developing and explaining models). Also includes teacher notes for instruction and trouble-shooting.

EXPERIMENT: Exploring Simple Harmonic Motion (IB DP Topic C1)

This straightforward experimental procedure can be done in virtually any context, and it serves two important goals. First it introduces student to a conceptual and mathematical treatment of simple harmonic motion through the basic example of a pendulum. Second, it explores varied measurement techniques to answer the same experimental questions, to prompt students to think about accuracy, precision, and the consequences of their design choices for the quality of their data. It is EXCELLENT prepa

Laboratory Exploration: Single Slit Diffraction (IB DP Physics)

This laboratory procedure for Topic C3 of IB DP Physics walks students through the process of examining the key variables that affect the intensity pattern in single slit diffraction. It also introduces them to the use of calipers as a measuring tool, if they have not previously used them. File includes two scaffolded versions of procedure with differentiation for advanced students, as well as teacher notes to troubleshoot laboratory setup and data collection and prompt deeper student discussion

Teaching style

My materials are developed with the aim of developing deep, conceptual understanding that allow students to interact with physics in a meaningful way. Yes, they will solve equations, but more importantly, they will recognize the significance of those equations in the world around them, and be able to articulate the relationships behind the variables and graphs.
